Cincinnati, Ohio. On September 4, 2013, a federal jury has awarded an African American lieutenant fire fighter a total of $224,000 in wages and emotional distress damages, ending his federal civil rights lawsuit. Lt. Mark Broach said he was satisfied with the verdict and thanked the jury for their thorough deliberations which lasted four days. Attorneys Al Gerhardstein and Jennifer Branch represented him. Gerhardstein said, “the city should get the message that it cannot retaliate when an employee complains about discrimination. We hope this verdict reminds the city to be fair to all workers.”
