The firm represented long time
African American leaders Marian and Donald Spencer in an effort to remove
Republican "challengers" from polling places in the African
American precincts in Cincinnati the week before the November 2004 presidential
election. The statute permitting challengers was later revised. Spencer
v. Blackwell, S.D. Ohio No. 1:04-CV-738; 2006 Ohio Senate Bill 3.
The firm successfully
defended the Black United Front and the Rev. Damon Lynch III on defamation
charges brought by a police officer engaged in a deadly force incident
who was offended by their criticisms. Co-counseled with Scott Greenwood
and Kenneth Lawson. Jorg v. Cincinnati Black United Front, 153
Ohio App.3d 258 (1st Dist. 2003).
